Bhubaneswar: A woman committed suicide here on Sunday allegedly due to mental duress in her marital life. The woman identified as Pragyan Parimita of Niali was married one month back.
Within 10 days of her marriage, she developed a dental problem which was termed as cancer by a local pharmacist. Following this, the woman, living in Patia with her in-laws was asked to leave and get treated by her parents.
Pragyan’s family said that the ailment was not cancer and she was alright in a few days with an expense of Rs 10,000. “However, she developed a mental stress after being discarded and resorted to the extreme step last night,” the deceased’s brother said.
The family has lodged a complaint with Mancheswar police alleging torture against Pragyan’s in-laws.
