Berhampur: The dead body of a woman, who allegedly committed suicide after not being able to bear the torture by her in-laws, was carried by her mother and sister as her in-laws’ or the villagers did not give their shoulders to take it to the cremation ground. Such an incident has occurred at Odiaalapur village in Khallikote block of Ganjam district.
Reportedly, the deceased identified as Neela Sahu of Parinuagam had married Harsha Sahu of Odiaalapur village. As Harsha was working in Chennai, his family took advantage of this and tortured Neela. They also did not let Harsha send any money to her. As a result, it was difficult for Neela to lead the world with her two sons.
Unable to bear the torture Neela drank poison. However, after drinking the poison, Harsha’s family members did not take her to the hospital even though she was suffering. After receiving the news, her family members came and took her to the hospital. But the doctor declared her dead and sent the body for post-mortem.
However, after the body was discharged, neither Harsha’s family nor the villagers came out to take the body for cremation. After lying in the village for four hours, Neela’s mother and sister were forced to carry the corpse on their shoulders. Neela’s mother has lodged a complaint against Harsha’s family at Khallikote Police Station.
