Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a person allegedly silted his wife’s throat with a knife in a brazen daylight assault leaving her critically injured. The incident took place at Pathan Mohalla under Town police limits in Balasore district.
The accused has been identified as Sheikh Amjad, a resident of Buxi Bazaar in Cuttack.
Meanwhile, police have taken the accused husband Amjad into custody and are conducting further interrogation.
According to reports, Amjad was engaged in a heated conversation with his wife by the roadside, seemingly attempting to settle a disagreement. However, the situation took a deadly turn when Amjad allegedly pulled out a sharp knife from his pocket all of sudden and attacked his wife, slitting her throat.
The victim was subsequently rescued by nearby locals who rushed her to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital in a critical state due to severe bleeding. However, as her condition worsened, she was transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for specialized care. Meanwhile, the accused was overpowered by the local crowd and handed over to the Town Police.
As per preliminary investigation, the couple had a strained relationship, and the woman was living separately in a rented accommodation in Pathan Mohalla.
Legal proceedings have been initiated, and Town Police are working to unravel the circumstances leading up to the violent incident.
