Bhubaneswar: A woman from the Rajkanika area of Kendrapara district succumbed to the mosquito-borne viral disease after delivering a baby at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
According to reports, the woman was admitted to the Capital Hospital on July 23 and underwent a C-section to deliver a baby. She had a fever a couple of days later and as her condition deteriorated she was admitted to the ICU of the hospital. Four days after delivery, the woman was detected positive for dengue and she succumbed to her ailment on Sunday.
“A pregnant woman was admitted to the Capital Hospital for delivery. It was her first pregnancy. She delivered the baby following surgery. Before surgery, she had undergone all medical tests including dengue and the reports were negative. On July 27, we again tested her blood sample after the patient developed a high fever post-delivery. This time, the test result was positive for dengue. Following the detection of dengue, she was under treatment both for fever and post-delivery complications. As her immune system had weakened post-delivery the patient could not be saved despite all efforts by the doctors,” Capital Hospital Director Dr Laxmidhar Sahoo told the media on Monday.
According to reports, 34 dengue patients were undergoing treatment at the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar till Sunday. Earlier, two patients had allegedly succumbed to dengue at the hospital.
