Bhubaneswar: In a gruesome incident, a 34-year-old woman was brutally hacked to death and her minor daughter left fighting for life by unidentified miscreants at their rented residence under Nimakhandi police limits in Ganjam district on Sunday night.
According to reports, Gayatri Swain (33) and her daughter Nilam Swain (12) had been living in the rented house at Srima Nagar’s second line since August 3. Gayatri’s husband, Sadhu Swain, lives in Bhubaneswar.
The miscreants reportedly stormed into the house after dinner and attacked the duo with a sword. Gayatri died on the spot, while her daughter was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where she is fighting for her life.
The assailants allegedly locked the house from the outside after committing the murder. Finding the house locked from the outside, the landlord became suspicious and informed Gayatri’s husband about the incident via phone call.
Police have launched an investigation to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the brutal assault.
