Bhubaneswar: A woman home guard posted at Chandrasekharpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar allegedly committed suicide after consuming poison on Wednesday night.

According to reports, the lady constable identified as Sujata Kar was rushed to Capital Hospital on Wednesday night and later shifted to a private hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.

According to Sujata’s family she took the extreme step due to mental distress following the death of her husband seven months ago. She had been suffering from depression, sleeping disorders, and had attempted to take her life multiple times.

Sujata, the sole breadwinner of her family, leaves behind her mother-in-law, a son suffering from autism spectrum disorder, and a daughter.

A case of unnatural death has been registered, and her body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem.

The family stated that despite medical advice and efforts, Sujata’s mental condition remained unchanged, ultimately leading to her tragic demise.
