Balasore: In a shocking incident, a woman police officer was assaulted and locked up by miscreants when she had gone to raid a gambling den at Udaypur village under Talasari Marine police station limits in the Bhogarai area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday night.
According to reports, when Talasari Marine Police Station IIC Champabati Soren reached Udaypur village and tried to stop gambling activities there miscreants attacked her and locked her in a shop. Some women even allegedly tore the IIC’s uniform. The miscreants also attacked Sudhansu Mohanty, the driver of the police vehicle, when he tried to protect Champabati Soren. He was left to bleed on the spot.
On being informed, police personnel from Bhogarai PS and Chandneswar Outpost reached Udaypur and rescued the IIC and other police personnel. While the police have detained 20 people in connection with the incident, an investigation has been launched into the incident.
Later, Jaleswar SDPO Dilip Sahu told the media that the Talasari Marine Police Station IIC and her staff had received credible information about illegal gambling activities in Udaypur village. When the IIC reached the spot during patrolling and asked people to stop gambling activities, an argument ensued. The accused then engaged in a scuffle with the IIC and detained her.
