Baliguda: An elderly woman died while her husband and daughter were injured after being attacked by a bear at Tangam village under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district on Sunday.
The deceased identified as Buduli Mallick of the village had gone to collect Siali leaves from the nearby forest when she was attacked by a bear. Hearing her screams, her husband Bancha Mallick, and daughter Sunita Mallick rushed to her rescue.
However, the bear also attacked the father and daughter. While Buduli succumbed to her injuries, Bancha and Sunita were admitted to Baliguda Sub Division Hospital.
On getting information, Jyotiraj Mallick arrived at the scene and initiated a probe. The Forest Department will provide adequate compensation as per government rules.
