Deogarh: An elderly woman was killed in an elephant attack late on Monday night in the Riamaal Range under Kundai Gola Section of Odisha’s Deogarh district. The deceased has been identified as Kuni Behera.
According to reports, the incident occurred when Kuni stepped out of her home after midnight. She was suddenly attacked by a herd of elephants that had strayed into her village from a nearby forest in search of food. She was rushed to a nearby healthcare center in a critical condition where she breathed her last.
On being informed, the Forest Department personnel reached the spot and launched an investigation into the accident.
In another incident, the wild elephants went on a rampage late on Monday night creating terror among residents. The herd of elephants destroyed two houses in the Ghatagaon Range and five other houses in the Patna Range of the Keonjhar district. The locals are apprehensive of further elephant attacks.
