Woman Killed, Son Injured In Lightning Strike In Malkangiri

Malkangiri: Lightning strike claimed the life of a woman and left her son critically injured in Malkangiri district on Thursday evening amid heavy rain and thunderstorms.

According to reports, the incident occurred in Kansariput village under Salimi Panchayat of Mathili block. Sudden gusty winds accompanied by thunder and lightning swept through the area in the evening. During the storm, Chhabi Nayak (40) was working outside their home, while her son Chandan Nayak (17) was lying on the verandah.

Tragedy struck when lightning hit, fatally striking Chhabi on the spot. Chandan also sustained serious injuries in the incident. Both were immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Mathili, where doctors declared Chhabi dead on arrival. Chandan is stated to be out of danger following treatment.
