Woman Lecturer's Rape & Suicide In Odisha's Mayurbhanj, IIC Suspended

Bhubaneswar: The inspector-in-charge of Jharpokharia, Sarat Chandra Mahalik was suspended following allegations of police inaction in the case of a woman lecturer's rape and suicide.

The deceased woman lodged a police complaint on October 30 stating that she was raped by her relative 30 October. She committed suicide on November 30. DGP (In-charge) Satyajit Mohanty said, on the basis of allegations levelled by the victim's father and inquiry, the IIC was suspended.

There are six accused in the case, three of them including the prime accused Soumyaranjan Sahu have been arrested. Rukmini Mandal who was found hanging on Sunday in the hostel of Rairangpur Women's College. Mahalik has been shifted to District Police Headquarters. Investigating Officer (IO) of the case ASI Prasant Kumar Swain was suspended earlir.

Rukmini had visited her cousin brother's house in Keonjhar in October this year when her sister-in-law's brother Soumyaranjan had raped her. Adding to her woes, her cousin brother and his wife also did not support Rukmini. Finally she lodged a complaint with the police but died in wait of justice.
