Koraput: In a major development amid the PLGA Week being observed by the red rebels from today, a woman Maoist cadre surrendered before Superintendent of Police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo here in the district.
She has been identified as Rame Madkami of Kurub village under Kalimela Police Station (PS) limits in adjoining Malkangiri district.
At the time of surrender, she was working as a member of the protection team of most-wanted Maoist leader Akkiraju Haragopal alias Srinivas alias SV alias RK and so on of AOBSZC Central Committee Member organization.
A press note released by the DPO here said that Rame was carrying Rs 4 lakh bounty on her head as declared by Odisha Government. Now the declared reward will be given to her as the surrender is voluntary. She will also be rehabilitated as per the surrender policy of Odisha Government.
She has 10 cases pending against her in adjoining Malkangiri district apart from this police district.
Rame was inducted into the CPI (Maoist) organization in 2013 at the age of 16 in gross violation of child rights after being lured into Sanskrutika Gana Natya Mandali which is the cultural troupe of the Maoists.
Apart from deprived of formal education, Rame was given military training and was armed with a .303 rifle by the ultras. After getting promotion to the rank of ACM, she was armed with INSAS rifle.
Police sources said that the recent appeal of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and DGP Abhay to the active naxals and militia, for surrendering and becoming part of mainstream and developmental initiatives, influenced her a lot to give up the path of violence and surrender.
She also saw the developmental activities being undertaken by the State Government in the Swabhiman Anchal after the inauguration of Gurupriya Setu in the erstwhile cut-off area of Malkangiri.
