Bhubaneswar: A woman Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head surrendered before Malkangiri SP on Wednesday. The surrendered Maoist has been identified as Ungi Madvi alias Rosni (20), a native of Pitadaba village under Dabba gram panchayat and Katekalyan police limits in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.
Roshni joined the outlawed CPI(Maoist) in 2016 and has been working as a party member of Mahupadar in Kanger Ghati of Darbha Division under the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and was carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh announced by the Government of Odisha.
Announcing the surrender of Ungi Madvi, Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani said, “It is a good achievement for the operation staff as the woman Maoist was actively involved in a series of incidents in Odisha for the last eight years. Apart from Odisha, she was also active in the neighbouring states.”
According to Wadhwani, Roshni was involved in at least 48 cases in Odisha, including IED blasts and ambush on security forces.
“Roshni saw various developmental activities being undertaken by the Government of Odisha in Malkangiri and realised the futility of the violent path of Naxalism. She understood that Maoists themselves were standing in the path of development of the region through their subversive activities. For that purpose, they are making innocent tribals fight amongst themselves and once their utility is over, they are being branded as police informers and being killed mercilessly,” the SP added.
