Phulbani: A woman Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire between the ultras and Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel in the Sindhi forested area under Baliguda police limits in Kandhamal district today.
The SOG personnel seized a gun from the deceased woman Maoist.
According to reports, the Kandhamal district police had received intelligence inputs of the existence of a Maoist camp in Sindhi forested area.
Following the information, Kandhamal SP Vineet Agarwal ordered the SOG personnel to conduct a combing operation in the area.
During the combing operation, the SOG personnel had an exchange of fire with the Maoists. After the exchange of fire SOG personnel while conducting a search in the forested area found the body of a woman Maoist along with a gun.
However, about 20 Maoists managed to flee during the operation. The deceased woman Maoist has not been identified.
It is suspected that Maoists belonging to the KKBN Division of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) were running a camp in the Sindhi forested area.
