Nuapada: In a shocking incident, a leopard reportedly mauled a woman to death at Siliaribahara village under Dharamabandha police station in the district.
According to reports, 45-year-old Rameswari Bai went to the nearest forest areas to attend nature’s call. She didn’t return home after a long time following which family members and villagers launched a search.
They found a leopard eating her body parts 100 meters away from the village. They immediately informed the forest department officials.
DFO Susil Kumar Tripathy also rushed to the spot.
“The woman was found dead in the forest. A leopard was found with her body in the forest. I am visiting the spot to take stock of the situation after being informed by the local sarpanch. We will recover the body and send it for-postmortem before handing over it to her family,” DFO said.
“We have intensified patrolling in the area. All our staffs from Komna and Nuapada ranges are present in the village,” he added.
The movement of leopards and other wild animals is quite natural as the people are residing in the eco-sensitive zone bordering the sanctuary, the DFO added.
Recently, a minor boy was also mauled to death by a leopard in Sunabeda in the same district.
