Sundargarh: An elephant broke into a house and killed a pregnant woman and her 8-year-old son when they were asleep in their house at Balijhudi village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Wednesday night. Three other children were also injured in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Sukanti and her son Sukhanath. The three injured children were rescued by the villagers and admitted to the Rourkela General Hospital.

According to reports, the woman was sleeping with her four children in their bedroom when an elephant knocked their house down killing the five. The elephant had strayed from the Barsuan forest range of Koida in the district.

According to reports, the woman was four-month pregnant. On the other hand, the father of the children reportedly is a labourer in Bengaluru.
