Berhampur: In a tragic incident, a woman passenger of a private bus succumbed to her illness after she was forced to disembark the vehicle on the National Highway 16 on Thursday evening.
According to sources, Sujith Swayu and her mother Runuswayu, residents of Padmatola village in Patpur block of Odisha’s Ganjam district, travelled by a private bus to Bhubaneswar for the woman’s treatment at AIIMS Hospital in the capital city.
When they were returning home by a private bus Runuswayu suddenly fell ill and her son asked the staff of the bus to take them to the nearest health facility. Instead of helping the woman, the bus staff forced the mother-son duo to disembark the vehicle near the Shani Mandir Chhak on the Humma-Ganjam road.
Unfortunately, Runuswayu breathed her last shortly after disembarking the bus. As the news of her death spread, a police vehicle patrolling the area arrived at the spot and tried to disperse the crowd gathered to protest the inhuman attitude of the bus crew and passengers.
Later, a constable of the 8th Battalion Rajendra Naik and a local social worker Sudheer Padhi came to the rescue of Sujith and offered him financial assistance to take his mother’s body to his village by ambulance.
