Sundargarh: A woman died in a fatal road accident near Pandridhipa Chhack on state highway No 10 under Sundargarh Town Police limits on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Helen Durh, a native of Pandridhipa in Sundargarh district.
According to reports, the accident occurred when the woman and her husband Prabhu Dayal Durh were returning home by an auto-rickshaw. As the couple got down from the auto-rickshaw near their home, a speeding trailer-truck came from behind and ran over the woman, killing her on the spot. The husband was miraculously unscathed.
Soon after the fatal accident, a large crowd gathered at the spot and staged a road blockade. They have been demanding that speed breakers be constructed on the road and fair compensation be given to the deceased’s kin. While the road rage continues at the time of writing this report, the Sadar Tehsildar and personnel from the Town Police station reached the spot and are trying to pacify the people.
