Woman & Son Electrocuted

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two-year-old son were electrocuted at Banspal market area under Banspal block in Keonjhar district on Tuesday morning. The victim’s mother-in-law sustained injuries while trying to rescue them.

The deceased have been identified as Kalpana Mahakud (23) and her son Subhrajit Behera.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 10.30 am when Kalpana was drying clothes in the yard of her house. An overhead electric wire reportedly came into contact with the clothesline, leading to electrocution. Hearing her screams, Subhrajit rushed to his mother and was also electrocuted upon touching her.

Kalpana’s mother-in-law, in an attempt to save them, also received an electric shock.

All three were rushed to the Banspal Community Health Centre (CHC) by family members and locals. However, doctors declared Kalpana and her son dead on arrival. The mother-in-law, who sustained serious injuries, was later shifted to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further treatment.
