Bhubaneswar: A woman allegedly was stoned to death by her husband in an inebriated condition at Balijoda village under Khunta police limits in Mayurbhanj district, on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Kunimani Singh (45). Though the exact reason behind the killing is not known, a family dispute is suspected to be behind the gruesome crime.

According to villagers, the couple had been married for 20 years, but frequent disputes over trivial matters marked their relationship. Although the exact motive behind the killing is still unclear, sources suggest that a family dispute may have led to the tragic incident.

Sukadev and Kunimani had gone somewhere. On their way home, an altercation ensued between the couple. An enraged Sukadev attacked Kunimani with a stone and injured her severely. He then fled the scene, leaving her to writhe in pain.

However, villagers found Kunimani dead and informed the police. Police have registered a case under Section 241/24 and detained Sukadev for interrogation. It is learnt that a forensic team from Baripada will rush to the crime scene to collect evidence.
