Phulbani: In a ghastly incident, a woman killed her four-year-old daughter and buried her in the forest. The incident was reported from Gutingia village under Sarangad police station of Kandhamal district.

According to reports, the accused woman, Padmini Dandia (23), took her minor daughter Surekha Jabiya to Badrimunda forest near her village in Odisha’s Phulbani on Saturday and strangulated her to death. Later, she buried the child’s body in the forest and returned home.

On being informed, Sarangad police reached the spot with a scientific team, exhumed the body, and sent it for autopsy. Police have arrested the accused woman and are interrogating her, said Sarangad police station officer Bhulata Vashal. A case has been registered under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC in this connection.

Padmini was happily married to Rakesh Jabiya of Gutingia village but trouble started for some unknown reason a few days back. It is suspected that the family dispute led to the girl’s murder. For the past few days, the woman was residing at her parent’s place.
