Woman Tehsildar Attacked For Enforcing Covid Guidelines In Balasore

Balasore: In an agonising incident, a woman officer of the State Government was allegedly beaten up while she was trying to restrain a family from violating COVID-19 guidelines. The incident took place in a village at Odangi in Balasore where the Tehsildar of Balasore Sadar, Anamika Singha, was roughed up by organisers of a post-death ritual ceremony.

Singha showed up at the spot after receiving information that a large gathering is likely to occur at an ‘Ekadasah’ (11th day ritual after death in Hindus) ceremony in Odangi on Wednesday. On reaching, she witnessed that food was prepared for around 500 people though the Government has restricted marriages to 50 and death-related gatherings to 20 people.

Singha said when she tried to forbid them, the organisers paid no heed to her warning. Following this, she asked her team to seize the cooked food. During the enforcement, the organiser of the event, the son of the deceased allegedly pushed Singha and attacked one of the employees of the Tehsildar’s office.

Singha has lodged a police complaint in this connection. A case has been registered on the basis of the Tehsildar’s complaint and police have started an investigation.
