Bhubaneswar: A 68-year-old woman died after sustaining severe burn injuries while igniting a diya for offering prayers on the occasion of Janmastami at her residence in the Jharpada area of Bhubaneswar last night.
The deceased has been identified as Shilpi Das Gupta.
According to reports, her clothes caught fire while she was lighting the diya in the evening. As a result, she sustained over 80 per cent burn injuries.
Despite being rushed to a private hospital and later shifted to the Capital Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead by the doctors.
