Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Yatri app, launched in January 2025, has seen a significant surge in adoption, with women accounting for 57.44% of the total users between October 2024 and July 2025. Out of 2.57 lakh passengers using the platform, over 1.48 lakh are female users.
This trend reflects the growing trust and confidence of women in public transportation systems, thanks to improved accessibility, safety, and inclusivity. The app’s success can be attributed to its user-friendly interface, real-time trip tracking, and robust complaint redressal system.
According to reports, out of 2.57 lakh passengers who have used the platform, over 1.48 lakh are female users. This trend is consistent, with women leading the adoption of the app, making up 55.38% of the user share as of July 2025.
Transport officials attribute the shift in user demographics to a combination of factors, including verified drivers, real-time trip tracking, improved last-mile connectivity, and a robust complaint redressal system. The app’s coordination with transport authorities has created a safe and responsible travel experience, particularly for women and other vulnerable groups.
“The data speaks for itself – women are not just participating, they’re leading the adoption of Odisha Yatri. This reflects the government’s strong commitment to gender-responsive and inclusive transportation,” said Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, Government of Odisha.
Building on its community-centric approach, Odisha Yatri has collaborated with the state transport authority and other stakeholders to provide free auto rides to over 30,000 pilgrims. Looking ahead, the state plans to expand Odisha Yatri to more cities and introduce ambulance and boat services under the platform, ensuring wider reach and impact.
As Odisha progresses towards a safer, smarter, and more inclusive public transportation system, the increasing number of female passengers is a testament to the success of the initiative. Women are trusting the services with their dignity and safety, knowing that their concerns will be addressed.
