Ganjam: Two women were robbed of 2 grams of gold and 200 grams of silver kada after being given food laced with intoxicants under the Purushottampur police limits of Ganjam district late Sunday night.
The victims, identified as Kuntal Gouda and her granddaughter, were on their way to Kuntal’s daughter’s house in the Chadhiapalli area.
According to reports, the two women were traveling back to the market after visiting their daughter’s house around 5 pm. They boarded an auto to return, but around 2 am, when they reached Kainchapur village under the Rambha police limits, they were found unconscious by the roadside.
The local sarpanch discovered them and immediately rushed them to the police station. They were then taken to the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Chhatrapur, before being transferred to MKCG Medical College in Berhampur for further treatment.
Meanwhile, the family grew concerned when Kuntal and her granddaughter did not return by 10 pm. After searching for them, the family reported them missing to the police. Later, they were informed that the two women were admitted to MKCG Medical College.
When the granddaughter regained consciousness, she informed authorities that the auto driver and other miscreants had kidnapped them, fed them intoxicating food, and robbed them of their valuables.
“The miscreants first offered me cold drinks, which I refused, and then they gave me some chocolate and sweets,” said the granddaughter.
Following this tip-off, Purushottampur police initiated an investigation into the matter.
