Bhubaneswar: A sensitization workshop was jointly organized by GRIDCO and GIZ, India on Wednesday (20th April 2022) at Bhubaneswar on Long-Term Energy Action Plan for the State of Odisha.
Minister, Energy Industry & MSME, Capt. Dibya Shankar Mishra inaugurated the workshop. Nikunja B. Dhal, Principal Secretary, Energy gave his keynote address at the Workshop.
Attending the workshop, Managing Directors of GRIDCO, OPTCL OPGC, OHPC, Secretary, OERC, EIC (Electricity), CEOs GEDCOL & TPCODL, Jt. Director, OREDA and senior officers of various Departments of Govt. of Odisha participated in the high-level deliberation towards preparation of the energy action plan for various energy consuming sectors such as Industries, Transport, Agriculture, Urban Development, Fisheries, MSME and Housing.
In his address, Energy Minister emphasized on transition to a low carbon economy so as to preserve resources and protect the climate and urged upon the departments to galvanize their efforts in respective sectors.
Principal Secretary, Energy highlighted the role of captive industries which are mostly dependent upon fossil fuel as captive generation plants accounts for about two third of the energy consumed in the State. On behalf of GIZ, India, technical expert Manoj Mahata led the discussion session. . At the outset, Director (F&CA), GRIDCO, Sh. G. B. Swain welcomed the dignitaries and presented the context setting address.
Earlier in July 2021, the State Government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with GIZ (a German Development Agency) under the Indo-German Bilateral Energy Access Programme IGEN Access-II for availing the non-financial Technical Assistance for preparation of a long-term Energy Action Plan for the .State.
The programme objectives are synchronized with the National energy ambitions like`24×7 Power for All, 500 Gigawatt Renewable Energy by 2030, reduction of oil & gas imports, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators and Net-Zero emission by 2070.
