Bhubaneswar: The World Elephant Day 2022 was celebrated with great pomp and show at the State’s iconic Nandan Kanan zoo here. The day is observed to devise strategies to conserve elephant population.
Stakeholders across the world frame modalities to reduce man-elephant conflict and address issues like depletion of forest cover. Besides, the authorities of the zoo plan programmes to educate people and create awareness of conservation of flora and fauna.
Deputy Director of the Zoo, Sanjit Kumar informed that there are around 1,900 elephants in the State and efforts are on to increase the forest cover to check man animal conflicts.
