Bhubaneswar: The Science for Common People Society (SCOPES), in collaboration with the Indian Meteorological Society-Bhubaneswar Chapter and Trident Academy of Technology, Bhubaneswar, celebrated World Nature Conservation Day 2025. The event aimed to raise awareness among young faculty, scientists, and students about the urgent need for nature conservation to ensure sustainable development.
Dr. Prabodh Mohanty, MD of SNM Group and President of Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, emphasised the importance of industry-academia interaction in promoting environmental protection. He noted that industries are now complying with environmental regulations due to stringent government guidelines and eco-friendly approaches.
Eminent environmentalist Dr. Bijay Ketan Patnaik highlighted the need for nature conservation and sustainable development, while Prof. U.C. Mohanty, a renowned climate scientist, emphasised the importance of understanding the science behind nature, environment, and climate change. Dr. Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD-Bhubaneswar, stressed the need for awareness about extreme weather events and a participatory role in impact-based warning systems.
The event, attended by nearly 200 faculty and students, featured interactions with experts and dignitaries, including Dr. D.N. Pattnaik, Principal of Trident Academy, and Dr. Sakuntala Mahapatra, Dean of Trident Group, who led the organisation of the event. The celebration concluded with a focus on nature conservation as a significant challenge that needs to be addressed.
