Berhampur: Yamuna Naik has been elected as the Chairperson of Digapahandi block in Ganjam district today. Out of the 25 panchayat samiti members, 24 people participated in the election.
One member was absent as he is currently in jail.
The election was announced to be held on August 31. As many as 14 PS members had reached the Block office while others who belonged to the rival group didn’t turn up. The election was called off.
Later, the election was rescheduled for today. Bamkei panchayat samiti member Yamuna Naika filed the nominations. As the members of the rival group didn’t take part in the poll, Naika was elected as the chairperson.
Five platoons of forces, five inspectors, and four SDPOs were deployed to maintain law and order.
