Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area formed in the south Bay of Bengal has intensified and turned into a depression over the Andhra coast of the west-central Bay of Bengal. Several parts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, are experiencing rain under its influence since Friday.
The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast possibility of rain in coastal and interior Odisha on Saturday.
According to the weather office, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Gajapati districts are likely to experience heavy rain today. A yellow warning for rain has been issued for these districts. Similarly, there is a possibility of rain in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur and Dhenkanal. Light to moderate rain is also likely at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak.
The weather in general will be cloudy in other places with gusty winds. Winds speed of 40 to 50 kmph and gusts of 60 kmph are expected along the South Odisha coast, so fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea.
The weather will change in the state from Sunday and after the rain subsides, the cold wave will increase again in the state. The minimum temperature in the state may decrease by 2°C to 4°C.
Meanwhile, farmers across the state are worried due to the continuous rain for two days. Farmers are harvesting their paddy yield in a hurry fearing that the ripe paddy will be damaged due to the unseasonal rain.
