Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for hot and humid weather conditions likely to prevail in several parts of Odisha until June 7.
According to IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are expected to experience oppressive weather conditions, particularly on June 3, 4, and 5. The warning may continue through June 6 and 7 for isolated places in these districts.
Dr. Manorama Mohanty, Scientist-F and Head of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said today that day temperatures are likely to rise gradually over the next five days, contributing to increased heat stress, especially in coastal areas.
“In view of the expected temperature and humidity levels, a yellow warning has been issued for hot and humid weather across parts of Odisha until June 7,” Dr. Mohanty said.
She advised residents—particularly those in coastal districts—to take necessary precautions to combat heat-related discomfort.
The public is urged to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and use cooling measures as necessary.
While sporadic light to moderate rainfall may occur at a few locations, no significant rainfall activity is expected during this period.
“The southwest monsoon has already made its advance into parts of southern Odisha, with its northern limit currently extending through Bhawanipatna and Puri,” She said.
The meteorological office continues to monitor conditions closely and has urged people to remain alert and follow advisories issued by local authorities.
