New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Centre today denied having received any resolution from the Odisha government for the setting up of Vidhan Parishad (Legislative Council).
Replying to a written question by BJD Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya, Union Law & Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju today clarified that as per Ministry records till date it has not received any resolution from the Odisha government for setting up of Vidhan Parishad.
Rijiju, however, added that information is being collected from the Odisha government with regard to the adoption of the resolution.
The Union Minister told that currently, six states-Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh have Vidhan Parishad.
Similarly, Assam, Rajasthan, and West Bengal have adopted resolutions for forming Vidhan Parishads.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Odisha Assembly in September 2018 passed a resolution for the setting up of Vidhan Parishad in the State.
