Yoga Can Only Unite World, Save Earth: Odisha Governor

Bhubaneswar: Yoga can only unite the world and save the tiny speck of this cosmos called earth, whose ecological integrity is in danger, said Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal after attending the Yoga Day celebrations at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a commitment to create a spiritual world alongside the material world and also got an approval from the United Nations. Presently, all the nations across world are leading towards Yoga, Lal said.

“Yoga helps a person in achieving a state of consciousness and enlightenment which puts an end to all kind of disputes in the world. It leads to establish peace and harmony in the world. Therefore is not just a form of exercise but a means of connecting with self,” he added.

Around 4000 participants including students, politicians, government employees, NCC cadets and general public attended the Yoga Day celebrations at Janta Maidan today.

BJP national vice president Baijayant Panda said, “I feel blessed by attending today’s event. I have participated in many sports in my life, have worked out in gym but never had an opportunity to perform Yoga. It was a good experience and as said by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi the national health policy should not only focus on medicine and surgery but also on preventive health measures such as Yoga.”

Panda said Yoga is our culture and as the whole world has adopted it we should have done the same as done in the last five years. He thanked Modi for popularising Yoga on international level within a span of five years what many Yoga teachers had not been able to achieve in a century.

A student of Sai International School, Swani Agarwal, said they have arrived at the venue to perform Yoga for their good health but one should perform it daily to avail its benefit.

Yoga is an essential part of a person’s day to day activities which helps in achieving flexibility of body and leading healthy life, said a member of Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, Utkalika, who had attended the celebrations for the first time.

One can surely avail the benefits of Yoga by performing it dedicatedly and daily, said Commanding Officer of 1 (O) Girls Battalion who had arrived with around 600 cadets. He requested the cadets and his parents provide them Yoga training and help them to be a better citizen.
