Bhubaneswar: A distressed young woman attempted self-immolation at the Bhadrak Collectorate on Saturday, protesting non-redressal of her job grievance.
Bijaylaxmi Das, a diploma holder in Early Childhood Care & Education, had applied for a Nursery teacher’s post but was unsuccessful. She had pinned hopes on a Balvatika teacher position, but the government’s decision to engage primary teachers instead left her disillusioned.
Das set herself ablaze in the Collectorate premises after failing to meet the district Collector. She was rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, where she is receiving treatment in the Burn Ward. Police are investigating the incident.
