Bhubaneswar: A young woman jumped into Mahanadi river in a bid to commit suicide near Tartol under Tirtol police limits in Jagatsinghpur district.
On receiving the information, the fire brigade arrived at the spot and started a search operation, but failed to trace her.
An eye witness called to the Tirtol fire brigade at 10 am today that the woman jumped off the bridge.
The police and fire brigade immediately arrived and started the operation. The firemen in two boats searched for her for more than three hours, but could not find her.
The eyewitness said, the unidentified woman did not leave anything like phone or sandals on the bridge before jumping into the water body.
Her identity and address remain unclear. Police launched an inquiry to identify her.
The girl’s home, how she came to Tartol and why she jumped, could not be found. The police have started an investigation into the incident.
