Balasore: A young woman was allegedly killed by a youth after the girl rejected his advances at Lingapada village under Soro police limits in Balasore district.
The deceased has been identified as Jyotirmayee Rana.
According to sources, the accused youth had been stalking the victim and when she rejected his advances, he slit her throat in a fit of rage.
Jyotirmayee was working in a private organization in Bhubaneswar and she had returned home two months ago. The incident occurred when the victim was alone at her home. The accused took advantage of the situation and committed the crime. After a short while, family members returned home to find her throat slit. They immediately rushed her to the Soro hospital, where doctors declared her dead, said sources.
Importantly, the victim had earlier filed a complaint against the accused at the Soro police station, alleging harassment.
After committing the crime, the accused is on the run. Soro police have, meanwhile, launched an investigation and are searching for the accused.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the murder could be linked to a love affair gone sour.
