Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly poisoned her family members over a family dispute at Kanikapada under Mangalpur police station in Jajpur district.
The incident occurred due to a long-standing family dispute sparked by Umakant Ojha’s daughter’s love marriage, which her family did not accept. Subsequently, it took a violent turn when she allegedly poisoned her family members, leaving six people hospitalised.
Six family members, including a toddler, were rushed to the hospital in critical condition after consuming food allegedly laced with poison. They are undergoing treatment at District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur.
According to reports, the Ojha family had filed a police complaint two days prior, alleging a physical altercation by their daughter and her husband.
According to the complaint, six months ago, Ojha’s daughter had eloped with a young man from the Sukinda area just before her arranged marriage was supposed to take place. After some time, Ojha’s brothers brought the couple back home, but the dispute continued as the family refused to accept the love marriage.
Following an argument on Friday, Ojha’s daughter allegedly mixed poison into the food while her mother was cooking lunch. After eating food laced with poison, all the family members fell sick. The accused daughter reportedly fled the scene after the incident.
