Ganjam: A young woman, who set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her on Monday night in Brahampur Sadar police station area in Odisha’s Ganjam district, died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment. The self-Immolation incident took place in Kukudakhandi block of Ganjam district.
According to reports, the young woman named Rani Pradhan set herself on fire by pouring kerosene in front of a chicken coop block. Locals present there rescued the woman and admitted her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
While the police have registered a case in this connection, the reason why the woman set herself on fire is yet to be ascertained. It is suspected that the woman tried to commit suicide over some domestic problems.
Though she is a native of Ambpua area, she lived in a rented house opposite the Kukudakhandi block office. She was studying at Mahamayi Women’s College in Gandhinagar. Unable to bear the abuse of his alcoholic father, he is suspected to have taken such an extreme step.
The police have detained the father of the young woman and interrogating him.
