Bhubaneswar: A youth has been taken into custody in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Bargarh district’s Pathari forest.
The accused was arrested based on suspicion of involvement in the crime, which has sent shockwaves through the community.
Talking to the media, IG Himanshu Lal said, “The accused has been arrested. Police will try to investigate the case in the fastest possible time so that the guilty is punished by law for this heinous crime at the earliest.”
According to reports, the naked body of the minor girl was found in Pathari forest under Paikamal police station, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation. The police have launched a thorough investigation and pressed a dog squad and a scientific team to gather evidence which led to the girl’s tragic death.
On a tip-off, senior police officials have visited the scene and are supervising the investigation to ensure that justice is served. The family members of the deceased girl have lodged a formal complaint following which police registered a case against the accused.
