Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for the rape and murder of a four-year-old girl whose body was found in an under-construction building in the Pattapur police station area of Ganjam district. Accused Kalia Nahak, a distant relative of the victim, confessed to the crime during interrogation, police said.

The accused had watched porn videos on mobile phone before raping the minor girl. He later raped the girl and killed her, police said.

The girl’s body was discovered two days ago in an abandoned house in the village. According to the Police, Nahak, who was intoxicated at the time, lured the girl with chocolate and the promise of visiting a festival. He took her to an isolated location, attempted to rape her, and then strangled her before dumping her body.

The victim had accompanied her mother to her paternal uncle’s house for a festival. She went missing while playing on the verandah of the house on Friday evening, prompting her family to file a missing person complaint at Pattapur police station.

Villagers found the girl’s body in the under-construction Anganwadi centre and alerted the police, who recovered the body and sent it to MKCG Medical College for a post-mortem examination.

Police are continuing their investigation.
