Jajpur: Police in Odisha’s Jajpur district have arrested a 26-year-old man, Alekh Malik, accused of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl.
The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s father at the Jajpur police station.
According to the complaint, Malik, visiting relatives in the girl’s village within the Dasarathpur block, lured the child away on Sunday under the pretext of buying her chocolate. He allegedly took her to a nearby market area where he sexually assaulted her. Malik later returned the girl to her home.
The crime came to light when the child experienced pain during urination, raising family concerns. Upon questioning, she reportedly recounted the ordeal to her relatives. Her family members subsequently confronted Malik’s relatives about the incident.
This confrontation, however, escalated into violence. Relatives of the accused allegedly attacked the victim’s family members, forcing them to seek police intervention.
The young victim is currently receiving medical care at the District Headquarters Hospital. Jajpur police have registered a case and arrested Alekh Malik.
An investigation into the alleged assault and the subsequent violent clash is ongoing.
