Bhubaneswar: Banki police on Monday arrested a youth in connection with the theft of Rs 2 lakh from the dicky of a scooter in Cuttack district.
The accused, identified as N. Munna of Paikarapalli village under Aska police station limits in Ganjam district, was apprehended following a detailed investigation led by Banki IIC Dillip Kumar Mardaraj Bhuyan.
According to reports, the incident took place after Rudra Mohan Bhatt, a resident of Kantakai village, withdrew Rs 2 lakh from a State Bank branch. He had kept the cash in a bag and locked it inside the scooter’s dickey before proceeding to a nearby market.
Taking advantage of the moment, two miscreants allegedly broke open the vehicle’s storage compartment, stole the bag, and fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Acting on the FIR filed by the victim, police analyzed CCTV footage from the area and launched a special operation. The investigation led to the arrest of Munna and police recovered Rs 1.5 lakh from his possession.
Efforts are underway to trace the second accused and recover the remaining amount.
