Bhubaneswar: Puri police arrested a youth for stealing expensive items worth lakhs from a luxury hotel during a wedding celebration in the capital city, on Sunday.
The youth is identified as 20-year-old Ritesh Sisodia, from Kadia village in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh.
According to reports, Ritesh and his friend tried to steal from another wedding venue in Puri on Monday. A security guard noticed Ritesh acting suspiciously and saw him carrying a suitcase. When the guard asked him questions, Ritesh tried to run away but was caught by other guards. They informed the Baliapanda police, who arrived and arrested him. However, his friend managed to escape.
Earlier, on Sunday, Ritesh and his friend had gone to a luxury hotel in Bhubaneswar, pretending to be guests from the groom’s side. In the crowd, one of the accused took part in a photoshoot with the bride, while the other kept watch. As the crowd grew bigger, the accused with the bride quietly stole a gift bag with cash and valuables placed by the bride’s mother. Both of them ran away after stealing the items.
The bride’s family reported the crime to the Maitri Vihar Police. After looking at CCTV footage from the hotel, the police identified the two suspects. They arrested one of them while he was trying to steal at the wedding venue in Puri. However, the second suspect escaped and the police are still trying to catch him.
