Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar on Thursday arrested a youth on charges of cyber fraud through OLX online advertisement.
According to an official press release issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhubaneswar, the accused youth has been identified as Dhirendra Kumar Jena alias Dhiren (37) of Sahaspur under Jajpur Sadar police limits in Jajpur district.
Jena allegedly defrauded complainant Suraj Xess (26) of Gandasrirampur, Tankapani Road under Badagada police limits of Rs 27,500 through fraudulent transactions after he wanted to get a room on rent through an advertisement on OLX.
Xess complained to the Cyber Crime and Economic Offence police station on 13th November in this connection.
Accused Jena with his associate publishes advertisements in newspapers as well as online regarding rooms on rent at the OLX website and when victim contacts them, they share fake photos and videos of rooms on rent with them.
They coax their victims for early payment in their account for early occupancy or else the room would be allotted to other customers, the release said.
Further investigation by the police reflected that accused Jena along with his associates has committed a series of OLX frauds from different people of Bhubaneswar and till now 10 reports have been tagged, the release added.
Moreover, Jena is also involved in another case at Jajpur Sadar police station, the release said.
Jena has been arrested and forwarded to court, the release said.
Police have seized eight SIM Cards of different network providers, two different bank passbooks, two ATM cards and identity proof from Jena’s possession.
Further investigation to nab Jena’s associates is in progress, the release added.
