Bhadrak: Police have detained a youth and his family members while he was attempting self-immolation in front of the district police headquarters here today.
A family from Gabasahi village of the district had sat on dharna in front of the Superintendent of Police (SP) here seeking justice while alleging that a neighbour had set their house on fire.
All of a sudden, a youth from the family set himself afire after getting doused with kerosene.
However, he was overpowered by the policemen.
He and his other family members have been detained by the police following the incident.
According to reports, on April 14, the house of one Sudarshan Das of Gabasahi village was reduced to ashes in a fire.
Das’ family had lodged a complaint with the police that the fire was the handiwork of one of their neighbours.
As no action was taken by the police in the matter, the aggrieved family sat on a dharna in front of the SP office.
While the family was sitting on dharna pressing for police action, the youth attempted self-immolation.
