Bhubaneswar/Balasore: In a bizarre incident, a youth climbed atop a 40-foot hoarding near Sishu Bhawan Chhak in the capital city of Bhubaneswar early on Wednesday morning with a view to committing suicide.
A large crowd gathered at the place and informed the Fire Services personnel, who rescued him to safety after two hours of effort.
According to sources, the youth hails from Angula village in Soro of Odisha’s Balasore district. However, neither his identity nor the reason behind his act is yet to be ascertained.
The youth has been detained at the Capital police station in the city and is being interrogated by the police.
Meanwhile, his wife Susmita Patra, who resides in Balasore, told the media that her husband works as a driver in Bhubaneswar and he may have taken the drastic step owing to acute poverty. “We don’t have a proper house and are even able to provide the tuition fees of our daughters. This may have driven my husband to take the extreme step,” she said.
