Deogarh: In a shocking incident, a youth slit the throat of a 32-year-old woman with a pen knife following a heated argument between the two before slitting his own throat in a bid to commit suicide on Saturday evening near Guru Sahi in Deogarh town.
According to reports, the accused youth identified as 34-year-old Simanchal Sasmal of Bhusunda area in Ganjam district after slitting Janha Karigar’s throat attempted suicide by slitting his own throat.
Passersby who saw both lying in a pool of blood in critical condition rushed them to the district headquarters hospital by ambulance.
While Simanchal was pronounced dead by the doctors, Janha is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Deogarh Adarsha police have launched an investigation into the incident and have seized two train tickets, an Aadhar Card and cash from the deceased youth’s possession.
Police have preserved Simanchal’s body in the morgue at the district headquarters hospital.
Police sources have revealed that the post-mortem will be conducted upon arrival of Simanchal’s family members tomorrow.
