Salipur: Youth Congress workers of Salipur Assembly Constituency on Monday staged a rally pressing for the Salipur town’s recognition as a Notified Area Council (NAC).
The rally by Youth Congress workers which started from Saheshwari Temple passed through the local market before concluding at the Tehsil office, where party workers staged a demonstration and submitted a memorandum to the Tehsildar.
Youth Congress workers alleged that despite Salipur fulfilling the eligibility criteria, successive governments have failed to declare it as an NAC. They pointed out that while some other towns have been accorded NAC status in recent years, Salepur continues to be overlooked, causing resentment among residents.
During the rally, the protestors raised slogans criticizing both the previous government, which ruled for 24 years without addressing the demand, and the present government for excluding Salipur from the latest list of NACs.
The leaders warned that if the demand is not fulfilled soon, the agitation would be intensified with road blockades and larger public demonstrations in the coming days.
