Patnagarh: A youth sustained grievous injuries today after coming in contact with explosives kept in a polythene bag under a bridge near Bileisathi village in Bothla panchayat under Patnagarh police limits in Bolangir district.
The grievously hurt youth has been identified as Hemsagar Sahu (35) of Bileisathi village.
After Hemsagar was provided with first aid at Patnagarh Sub Divisional Hospital he has been shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Bolangir as his condition was critical.
According to reports, at around 4 PM today Hemsagar had gone to attend to nature’s call under a bridge at the end of Bileisathi village.
After attending to nature’s call Hemsagar saw a round object inside a polythene bag lying under the bridge.
Out of curiosity using a stick Hemsagar handled the polythene bag.
All of a sudden the object inside the bag exploded.
A shepherd who was grazing goats nearby on hearing the explosion and reached the spot only to find Hemsagar writhing in pain with grievous injuries on his face and both legs.
A critically injured Hemsagar was first rushed to the Patnagarh Sub Divisional Hospital by some youths.
On being informed Patnagarh Sub Collector Bijayananda Sethi, Tahasildar Laxman Majhi, and Assistant Collector Padmanav Maharana visited the hospital. Patnagarh MLA Saroj Kumar Meher also visited the hospital.
The district administration has provided Rs 25,000 to Hemsagar from the Red Cross Society for meeting the expenses towards his treatment.
While Hemsagar has been shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Bolangir as his condition was critical, police on reaching the spot have launched an investigation into the incident.
