Hit-And-Run

Bhubaneswar: A youth died after allegedly being hit by a police vehicle in the Balanda area of Talcher in Angul district on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Sushant Sahoo, a resident of the Balanda area.

According to reports, the incident occurred early Tuesday morning when Sushant was on his way to the local market on his scooty to purchase groceries. During this time, a vehicle, reportedly belonging to the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) allegedly struck him at high speed, causing him to fall to the ground. The driver of the vehicle then fled from the scene and Sushant succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

In response, a large group of area residents gathered at the site, staging a road blockade and demanding the immediate arrest of the driver. The protesters also called for justice for Sushant’s grieving family. As tensions escalated, the crowd raised slogans and questioned the accountability of those entrusted with maintaining law and order.

On being informed, local police promptly arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
